HAIRSPRAY—Rod Thomas and cast
Carly with Corny Collins and the Nicest Kids In Town – Drury Lane Theatre’s award winning production of ‘Hairspray’.

Before becoming a software engineer at Slack, Carly supported herself as a professional actress in Chicago for two years after graduating from Northwestern University, where she studied theater, film, and musical theater.

Carly was represented by Chicago’s leading talent agency, Gray Talent Group, and worked  in 5 critically acclaimed musicals at several prestigious Chicago theaters in both leading and ensemble roles, singing, dancing and acting. Each show ran 3-7 months with 8 performances per week. She is still a candidate for Actors Equity Association.

At the peak of her career, she was invited to perform the supporting lead in ‘Hairspray’ at the opening ceremony for the 2012 Joseph Jefferson Equity Awards. The Drury Lane Theatre’s production of  ‘Hairspray’ which was nominated for 8 Jeff Awards. Carly co-starred with Tony Nominee, Felicia Fields (The Color Purple), and former SNL cast member Tim Kazurinski.

Growing up she studied ballet with The Pennsylvania Ballet, Bowman School of Dance, and Alonzo King’s Lines Ballet in San Francisco.

 Moving forward she hopes to explore the intersections of art and technology.

She also just got a new guitar and plans to keep the arts in her life as a soul-nourishing hobby.
